Lake Mead, December 13th, 2008

Weather cool and clear. Compared to Saturday's 45 MPH winds and dust storm! The lake was flat calm. We saw a total of five boats on the water. Cruised from Calville Bay to the dam. Back up to Jamesons cove and then back to the marina. Total cruise time was three and a half hours.

Lake Mead, January 10th, 2009

Our first outing for the new year. The weather was crystal clear with a temperature of 56 degrees. We cruised out of Calville Bay and over to Virgin Basin. The only other boats on the lake were the bass fisherman running in the tournament. The water level has come up three feet since our last outing on 12/13. Hopefully this is a good sign of things to come.

Lake Mead January 24th and 25th 2009

Weather was windy on Saturday. Winds out of the south at 15 to 20 knots gusting to 30. Once inside the narrows though the water was flat calm! Temperature was 71 degrees on Saturday. Lake continues to rise. Elevation at 1112.50. One hundred six feet below full pool.

Lake Mead January 31st - February 1st

Weather was beautiful! Seventy degrees, sunny, very light breeze out of the northwest. We launched out of Callville Bay cruising for twenty two miles over to Temple Basin. We located a great little cove with a beautiful view and dropped the hooks for the night. Sunday was as beautiful as Saturday just a bit more breezy. Lake level is down to 1111.80.

Lake Mead February 8th

Weather was once again beautiful. Clear and sunny warm in the low 60's. The lake is holding right around the 1111 foot mark. Predictions are for it to come up 20 feet this year.

Lake Mead February 21st and 22nd

Weather was partly cloudy with temperatures in the high sixties to low seventies. Winds were non existent! Lake temperature was 55 degrees. Fishing must be improving, numerous bass fishing boats out and about. Anchored near Napoleon's Tomb on Temple Basin. Lake level maintaining the 1111 foot elevation. Nearly ran out of fuel on return trip. Temple Bar Marina was out of diesel fuel.

Lake Mead March 7th and 8th

Weather clear and 65 degrees. Water 57 degrees. Lake level at 1111.08. Wind 10-12 out of the north. Motored over to the overton arm. Overnighted in a small cove. Spotted three burrows on the way north. The eagles must have gone back north. We have not seen any on our last two outings.

Motored 53 miles at 6 knots.

Lake Mohave, April 18th

Weather was beautiful! 86 degrees and sunny. The best weekend we have had this year! Motored to the dam against a ten knot current as best we can tell. Had it wide open at a couple of points and only managed four MPH over ground. The water authorities (if you want to call them that) continue to drain Lake Mead to make a point. They are looking to pull water from Northern Nevada and need to be able to show a need. Therefore, they are dumping water from Lake Mead at a rate that is unbelievable!

We motored for over six hours today heading first upstream and then down. The water is still only 56 degrees.

May 16th and 17th, Lake Mohave

With Lake Mead continueing to fall, Mohave looks like it will be the only option for us this summer. We headed out from Willow Beach at around ten on Saturday morning. The weather was beautiful, sunny and warm. The water on the other hand....... still very cold! At Willow Beach we only got a reading of sixty degrees. At our anchorage some ten miles down river, it was still only 65! Still to cold to get in. The weather that after noon turned very hot, 105 degrees, the warmest we have seen this year. Mohave seems to be experiencing a algae bloom that we have never seen there before.

Bighorn were a plenty this weekend with one herd having 13 head.

Summer of 2009

With the declining lake level at Lake Mead, we have been forced (not in a bad way though) to do our boating on Lake Mohave. We have spent numerous weekends afloat on the lake and have loved every minute of it. We spent this past weekend (August 8th and 9th) in a great little cove half way down the lake. We launched at Cottonwood Cove for the first time with Solitude. We had used this ramp numerous times before with out 13' Whaler but had never taken Solitude down before. That is the end of that story. Great place to launch with great, easy parking for the truck and trailer. The weather was incredible! High 90's during the day, low 70's during the night! We were able to shut off the air conditioner around 2am and open the windows! What a treat in August! Check out the photo page for recent photos.
